Last week, Apple released iOS 15.7.4 for iPhones and iPads incompatible with iOS 16. This update fixed critical security vulnerabilities in these older models, and now the Cupertino company is rolling out another software update for these older devices. These updates can provide a better user experience and fix current problems.
According to the official release notes, iOS 15.7.5 doesn’t bring any new features but includes some significant security improvements. The iOS update that comes with iPadOS 15.7.5 has build number 19H332. It will be available for iPhone 6s (all models), iPhone 7 (all models), iPhone SE (1st generation), iPad Air 2, iPad mini (4th generation), and iPod touch (7th generation).
Notably, some of the devices listed above are almost a decade old and still receiving updates, given that Apple has already discontinued support for these models. Surprise updates like this aren’t uncommon because they fix critical security vulnerabilities that could affect users’ privacy.
Along with iOS 15.7.5, Apple has released macOS Big Sur 11.7.6 (20G1231) and macOS Monterey 12.6.5 (21G531). In related news, Apple has rejected TSMC’s request for a price increase in 2023, according to a blogger. This decision was made due to declining iPhone sales, making it difficult for Apple to justify the new process and technology price increase. Apple thinks it has already paid for the new approach, and given the iPhone’s disappointing sales performance, any further price hikes would be unfair.
TSMC’s challenges with producing 3nm chips have also caused Apple to rethink its performance goals for the next high-end iPhone chip. As the sole customer of TSMC’s 3nm chips, Apple has been waiting for the semiconductor giant to develop a solution. The current situation could jeopardize the long-term cooperative relationship between the two companies, as Apple may sacrifice its A17 chip if it cannot improve its performance.
We have to wait to see if another update will be released soon.
